In 1972 Rudolf Olgiati founded the "Society for Good Old Architecture" together with Paul Grediger. With this company, the two men pursued the goal of making empty patrician houses and valuable old buildings usable for a contemporary use. Initially, the Zurich advocate Richard Allemann was also involved in the company. The company immediately invested the profits into new projects. In this way, the Von Planta building ensemble from 1684 in Malans was acquired. The former feudal residence of Von Planta family was bought in 1972 by the lawyer Richard Allemann and Rudolf Olgiati, signing the contract as private individuals. The following year they sold the property to the "society for good old architecture" at a price of 90,000 Swiss francs to avoid property taxes. The historic building, which consists of three volumes, was then rebuilt by Rudolf Olgiati. Due to the constellation Rudolf Olgiati had absolutely free hand in the design and furnishing. The interventions of Rudolf Olgiati concentrated on the middle of the three buildings. The apartments have been equipped to the last detail, from the furniture to the curtains, according to his concept. In 1974 the seven comfortable apartments were ready to move in. The apartments were offered at prices ranging from 160,000 to 260,000 francs. The company of Paul Grediger had bought one of the two most expensive apartments. The other was already offered for sale a lot more expensive in the following year. Like the two other shareholders, Rudolf Olgiati also invested money in this business - but his work was the major investment in the project.
The projects of the "Society for Good Old Architecture" met little understanding with the public and also with the authorities. So the house Von Planta in Malans stirred the mind because of the snow-white, not tinted facade. In addition, the missing window shutters were perceived as disturbing. In Malans the Von Planta House was discussed as the eyesore in the village center. When the budgeted proceeds for several construction projects could not be achieved, the lawyer Richard Alleman left the company. Even after hiring a managing director for the "Society for Good Old Architecture", sales and leasing did not get going that well. Among other things, this was due to the uncompromising attitude of Rudolf Olgiati. He designed the apartments according to his own spartan way of life, so that the circle of potential buyers significantly reduced. Due to the failures, the "Society for Good Ancient Architecture" was dissolved in 1994 in the dispute and under the influence of lawyers.

Zusammen mit Paul Grediger hatte Rudolf Olgiati 1972 die "Gesellschaft für gute alte Architektur" gegründet. Mit dieser Firma verfolgten die beiden Männer das Ziel leer stehende Patrizierhäuser und wertvolle Altbauten für eine zeitgenössischen Verwendung nutzbar zu machen. Anfänglich war an der Firma auch der Zürcher Rechtsanwalt Richard Allemann beteiligt. Die Gesellschaft investierte dabei den Gewinn umgehend wieder in neue Projekte. Auf diese Weise wurde auch das Von Planta Gebäude Ensemble aus dem Jahr 1684 in Malans erworben. Der ehemalige feudale Wohnsitz der Von Plantas war im Jahr 1972 durch den Rechtsanwalt Allemann und Rudolf Olgiati als Privatpersonen gekauf worden. Für 90'000 Schweizer Franken verkauften sie das Anwesen im folgenden Jahr an die "Gesellschaft für gute alte Architektur" um Grundstücksteuern zu umgehen. Das historische Gebäude, welches aus drei Baukörpern besteht, wurde dann durch Rudolf Olgiati umgebaut. Aufgrund der Konstellation hatte Rudolf Olgiati absolut freie Hand bei der Gestaltung und Einrichtung. Die Eingriffe von Rudolf Olgiati konzentrierten sich dabei auf das Mittlere der drei Gebäude. Die Wohnungen wurden bis ins letzte Detail, von den Möbeln bis zu den Vorhängen, nach seinem Konzept ausgestattet. Die sieben komfortablen Wohnungen waren ab 1974 bezugsbereit. Die Wohnungen wurden zu Preisen von 160'000 bis 260'000 Franken auf dem Markt angeboten. Die Firma von Paul Grediger hatte dabei eine der beiden teuersten Wohnungen erworben, die andere wurde bereits im Folgejahr um einiges teurer zum Verkauf angeboten. Wie die beiden anderen Gesellschafter investierte auch Rudolf Olgiati Geld in dieses Geschäft - allerdings war seine Arbeit die grössere Investition in das Vorhaben.
Die Vorhaben der "Gesellschaft für gute alte Architektur" stiessen bei der Bevölkerung und auch bei den Behörden auf wenig Verständnis. So erregte das Haus Von Planta in Malans die Gemüter aufgrund der schneeweissen, nicht abgetönten Fassade. Zudem wurden die fehlenden Fensterläden als störend empfunden, so dass vom Schandfleck im Dorfzentrum gesprochen wurde. Als sich der budgetierte Erlös bei mehreren Bauvorhaben nicht erreichen liess, trat der Rechtsanwalt Richard Alleman aus dem Unternehmen aus. Auch nachdem man einen Geschäftsführer für die "Gesellschaft für gute alte Architektur" engagiert hatte, kamen Verkauf und Vermietung nicht so richting in Schwung. Unter anderem war dies auf die kompromisslose Haltung von Rudolf Olgiati zurückzuführen. Er gestaltete die Wohnungen entsprechend seiner eigenen spartanischen Lebensweise, so dass sich der Kreis potentieller Käufer markant verkleinerte. Aufgrund der Misserfolge wurde die "Gesellschaft für gute alte Architektur" im Jahr 1994 im Streit und unter Einfluss von Anwälten aufgelöst.
