Corso Sempione 33, Milano

Only
a few years after Bottoni and Ulrich had created a design for a
building on the corso Buenos Aires in Milan, Piero Bottoni revives the
volumetric motif,
when he comes up with his proposal for the building situated on Corso Sempione 33. The building has eighteen stories and is of a considerable height in
the neighbourhood of the Corso Sempione. Nevertheless it does not stand aut as a vertical landmark, but rather as a laminated element. It appears as
a structure facing perpendicular to the axis of the Corso Sempione. In regard to the task of an urban residential building, this design best embodies
the philosophy of Piero Bottoni. The whole design is based upon strictly rationalist criteria. Thanks to the simplicity, the orderliness and the regour of its forms,
this building further contributes and adds orderliness and rigour to the urban layout. In this design, Piero Bottoni paid special attention to the relation
between the private and public spaces of the building. As a consequence the building features common terraces, green spaces and a generous groundfloor
connecting the vertical circulation. In contrast to the monochrome appearance of the exterior, which is enlivend by the undulating shape of the façade,
this ground floor is shows an astonishing colourful design.
