CMA CGM Tower

In the course of the Euroméditerranée urban renewal project, the Tour CMA CGM high-rise was built in Marseille. With a height of 147 metres, the tower designed by Zaha Hadid is the tallest building in the French port city. The office building in the Mirabeu district was built as the headquarters of the shipping company CMA CGM and contains 2200 workplaces. The surrounding area is characterised by low buildings from the post-war period, and especially by the noisy expressway that surrousnds the building. In her design, Zaha Hadid attempts to translate the dynamics of motorised traffic into architecture. The result was a building of unconventional shape that posed a challenge to conventional construction methods.
Im Zuge des Stadterneuerungsprojektes Euroméditerranée wurde das Hochhaus Tour CMA CGM in Marseille errichtet. Mit einer Höhe von 147 Metern ist der von Zaha Hadid entworfene Turm das höchste Gebäude der französischen Hafenstadt. Das Bürogebäude im Stadtquartier Mirabeu wurde als Hauptsitz der Reederei CMA CGM errichtet und enthält 2200 Arbeitsplätze. Die Umgebung ist geprägt von niedrigen Bauten aus der Nachkriegszeit, und insbesondere von der lärmigen Schnellstrasse, welche das Gebäude umgibt. In ihrem Entwurf versucht Zaha Hadid die Dynamik des motorisierten Verkehrs in Architektur zu übersetzen. Es entsand ein Gebäude von unkonventioneller Figur, welche eine Herausforderung für die herkömmlichen Konstruktionsweisen darstellte.
