Herzog de Meuron - Switzerland Commercial and Apartment Building Herrenstrasse 42 - 44, Munich 1996 - 2000 |
The building, located in the old centre of Munich and designed by Herzog & de Meuron is connected directly to the neighboring buildings, and forms the end of a row of buildings. The residential and commercial building is fully glazed on all three sides, and creates a strong interaction between opening and closing. Every second element of the glazing is made of a sliding door. The frames of the windows are made of anthracite-brown galvanized aluminium. The arrangement of the wave-shaped sunscreens changes the appearance of the building depending on the time and weather of day. The interior layout emphasizes a maximum flexibility for its users. The top floor is designed as an intimate wooden penthouse. The underground car parking is accessible by a car lift. |
