Sverre Fehn - Norway Bøler Library Bølerlia 3C, Oslo 1972 |
The Bøler Library is the last part of the so-called Bøler Community Centre, designed by Sverre Fehn, which was finished in 1972.
The project was realized on a local initiative and had to be funded over a period of several years by fundraising. The Library Building appears as a simple and cubic volume, wich consists of a base in red concrete and a band of windows with dark slender frames. Of special interest are the concrete brise-soleis, which stand in front of two façades as independent constructions. On the interior of the one-storey construction, the single space is exclusively lit from above by the band of windows. Running all around the perimeter walls, bookshelves are dominating the introverted space of the library. |
