Luigi Figini & Gino Pollini - Italy
Chiesa della Madonna dei Poveri Piazza Madonna dei Poveri, Milano
1952 - 1954

Since
the establishment of the Grupo 7 in 1926, Gino Pollini and Luigi Figini
strictly focussed on a research on rational orthodoxy.
After many years, the turmoil of the 1950s provoked the two architects
looking for alternatives. This changed attitude manifests the
need to express themselves through a free renewd language in times of
changes. The church Madonna dei poveri belongs to the works
which were accomplished by the two architects during this period. In
this building the entire architecture originates from the interior,
from the physical and metaphysial value and from the light that livens
it up. Following this work, there were some later major architectural
experiences which were developed in the syme manner. Even though,
Figini & Pollini will be remembered in the history of recent
Italien architecture,
first and foremost as the masters of rationalism.
