Anglican Church of All Saints

Within
a few days Rudolf Schwarz and Josef Bernard prepared a draft for the
competition of the Anglican Church of All Saints. They were invited for
this competition
along with several other architects. The design shows an elongated rectangular building with dimensions of 35 x 13 m and a height of 10 meters. Six supports are
placed at a distance of 1.5 m to the wall. They structured the space into seven bays. All equipments were placed freely in the room, to emphasize the simple form.
Transversely arranged flat barrel vaults, made of reinforced concrete, cover the bays. This barrel vaults merge into the pilasters of the outer wall.
Rudolf Schwarz and Josef Bernard received the commission, but they had to change their design completely. The rules of the English military service contained instructions
on how a garrison church was to be designed. The dimensions were retained. In the realized church the space ends with a rounded choir which is separated from the community
space by an arch. In the presbytery, the buttresses are visible. Otherwise, the interior is of a smooth-faced masonry. A visible pitched roof covers the church.
On the exterior the church is structured by slanted brick pillars. In between there are large arched windows. Only the front entrance, the field in front of the choir and
the field at the apex of the choir remain closed. The entrance in the front gable has a barrel-like canopy supported by brick pillars.
