Station Sanitaire du Port

On behalf of the Ministry of Health, the architect Fernand Pouillon was able to complete the health station of the port of Marseille in 1948. The building is to be understood in the tradition of old Lazarets. The structure of this building consists of columns and slabs of reinforced concrete. The façade, on the other hand, is clad in natural stone. The same stone was used as in the neighboring residential complex "Tourette". The building has some typical modernist features. The facade is characterized by band windows and the large glass area in the area of the entrance. Further typical elements of the Station Sanitaire du Port are the rounded corner of the triangular floor plan and the horizontally structured sliding doors in front of the corridor.
For the construction of the highway under the Old Port of Marseille in 1991, the outer gallery of the Station Sanitaire du Port was destroyed. Many years later a special edition of the magazin "Monumental" on France's maritime heritage was dedicated to this building by Fernand Pouillon. The building was recognized by several experts as a unique example of its kind, and the conservation of the Station Sanitaire du Port Marseille was demanded. The building was preserved despite the distress of the highway, and is now used as a museum.
Im Auftrag des Gesundheitsministeriums konnte der Architekt Fernand Pouillon im Jahr 1948 die Gesundheitsstation des Hafens von Marseille fertigstellen. Das Gebäude steht in der Tradition alter Lazarets. Die Struktur dieses Gebäudes besteht aus Stützen und Platten aus Stahlbeton. Die Fassade wurde hingegen in Naturstein verkleidet. Dabei wurde der selbe Stein wie bei der benachbarten Wohnüberbauung "Tourette" verwendet. Das Gebäude weist einige typisch modernistische Merkmale auf. Die Fassade wird charakterisiert durch Bandfenster und die grosse Glasfläche im Bereiche des Eingangs. Prägend sind zudem die abgerundete Ecke des dreieckigen Grundrisses und die horizontal gegliederten Schiebeleden vor dem Korridor.
Für den Bau der Schnellstrasse unter dem Alten Hafen von Marseille wurde 1991 die äussere Galerie der Station Sanitaire du Port zerstört. Erst zahlreiche Jahre später wird dem Gebäude von Fernand Pouillon eine Sonderausgabe der Zeitschrift Monumental zum maritimen Kulturgut Frankreichs gewidmet. Von verschiedenen Experten wurde das Gebäude als einzigartiges Beispiel seiner Art anerkannt, und der Denkmalschutz für die Station Sanitaire du Port Marseille gefordert. Das Gebäude konnte trotz der Bedrängnis durch die Schnellstrasse erhalten werden, und wird heute als Museum genutzt.
