With the construction of the municipal stadium of Aix-En-Provence at the beginning of the reconstruction phase after the Second World War, the architect Fernand Pouillon expanded his professional field of action. At this time it was important to creat a stadium with modest means. Noteworthy is the sensitive placement of the construction on its site. The fine articulation of the heights is particularly evident in the sectional drawings. There are eight steps from the entrance to the top row of seats, with the grandstand, with its nineteen steps, dipping into the terrain. By using stones from Rognes and Burgundy, the stadium blends in well with the surrounding countryside. Above the massive, stone pillars, the steel roof of truss girders seems to float. Like a filigree wing, the roof is anchored in the ground with a steel tensile structure.
Mit dem Bau des städtischen Stadions von Aix-En-Provence zu Beginn der Wiederaufbauphase nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg, erweitere der Architekt Fernand Pouillon sein berufliches Aktionsfeld. Mit bescheidenen Mitteln galt es zu dieser Zeit ein kostengünstiges Stadion zu schaffen. Bemerkenswert ist die sensible Setzung des Gebäudes an seinem Bauplatz. Die feine Artikulation der Höhen zeigt sich insbesondere im Gebäudeschnitt. Vom Eingang bis zur obersten Sitzreihe gibt es acht Stufen, wobei die Tribüne mit ihren neunzehn Stufen zur Laufbahn in das Terrain eintaucht. Durch die Verwendung von Steinen aus Rognes und dem Burgund fügt sich das Stadion gut in die ländliche Umgebung ein. Über den massiven, steinernen Pfeilern scheint das stählerne Dach aus Fachwerkträgern zu schweben. Wie ein filigraner Flügel wird das Dach mit einer Zugstruktur aus Stahl im Boden verankert.
