Arne Jacobsen - Denmark Storehouse and Office Building Saarstrasse / Kantstrasse, Mainz 1967 - 1969 |
In
the years 1967 to 1969 Arne Jacobsen hat the possibility to build a
storehouse and office building in the capital of Rheinland-Pfalz.
The client for the building in Mainz was the Novo Industrie GmbH company (today Novo Nordisk). In the meantime the so-called Arne-Jaobsen-Bau is used by the company BKM. Arne Jacobsen, who had already noteworthy experience in creating office and industrial buildings, designed this construction according to the international style. The building is a very simple designed cube. The exterior is dominated by encercling belt windows and repetitive white panels used for the facade cladding. Only the two entrences precede the cube. These are designed so that they have as little impact as possible and do not disturb the shape of the cube. As a consequence of this commission, Arne Jacobsen was animated to take part in the architectural competition for the town hall Mainz. Arne Jacobsen won the first prize with his proposal and the building was completed after his sudden death. |
