Josef Lackner - Austria
Council  Remembrance Church
Lainzer Strasse 138 - Vienna
1965

This church, built in the 1960s, is marked by the mood of change and breakup within the church.
New architectural concepts seemed to be possible through a new openness and democracy of the church as institution.
Josef Lackner developed an interior church space which is rich in contrasts. The church is based on a square plan
with heavy external walls which contain a circulation in the first story. A circumferential celestory provides sufficient
light for the interior and makes the roof to seem weightless. Later Additions and Changes were made by the architect Sepp Müller.
